I began my career as a Communication Major in 1990 at Northern Arizona University just after high school graduation. As a young, impressionable, and naive kid, I remember the shock of being away from home for the first time. I majored in Communications, not because of any vision I had for myself, but because I needed a major. The vision became clear as I recall an epiphany-like experience when I took my first class in Communications. The instructor was speaking about senders, receivers, and messages. It was something I never heard before, and I was impressed. Communication is not a topic that is taught in high school, leaving us at a significant disadvantage if communication in our families was deficient or non-existent. Ironically, communication is what determines all of our interactions and ultimately our happiness.
With this foundation in Communication Studies, I developed an interest in human behavior and a deeper understanding of communication styles as they manifest throughout the lifespan. I enrolled in a Master's Degree Counseling Program at National University in San Diego, CA. It was there that my interest in Psychology blossomed into a desire to become a Clinical Psychologist. After working with adults, children, families, and couples for several years, I enrolled in Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. The program was a 6-year, life-changing transformation from Therapist to Licensed Clinical Psychologist. The journey was filled with challenges that have helped me grow as an individual and as a professional.
My professional experiences in the fields of Psychology and Communications have led me to a practice that combines therapy, teaching, and guidance. You will learn about your communication style, gain insight into your development, and learn the nuts and bolts of building new skills.
I look forward to working with you to transform areas in your life that are currently not satisfying. Call for a free telephone consultation.
